Draft — this policy describes how the Cahoots app and website handle information. It will be reviewed by counsel before public launch.

Who we are

Cahoots (working title) (“we”, “us”) operates the Cahoots mobile app and this website. Contact: hello@example.com.

What we collect

Account: your email address (for sign-in codes) and a first name.
Age: your birthdate, used only to confirm you are 18 or older. Your age is never shown to other users.
Profile: interests, activities you want to try, social style preferences, budget, availability, and an optional photo and bio.
Location: a neighborhood you choose and, if you allow it, a coarse home-base point used only to filter plans by distance. We never store or show your street address or live location.
Activity in the app: plans you join or create, crews you’re in, messages you send in crew and Circle chats, answers in icebreaker rounds, check-ins, and post-meetup feedback.
Post-meetup picks: who you’d hang out with again. These are private; only mutual picks are ever revealed, and only to the two people involved.
Device: a push-notification token if you enable notifications, and basic diagnostics.
Website: if you join the waitlist, your email and the city you’re interested in.

How we use it

To match you into small groups for plans, using an explainable set of rules (shared interests, social style, distance, availability, past reliability).
To run the pre-meetup icebreakers and show what your crew has in common.
To keep the community safe: reports, blocks, moderation, no-show tracking.
To send notifications you’ve opted into (crew ready, meetup reminders, mutual connections).
To measure whether the product works — we track outcomes like meetups attended and connections made, not time spent scrolling.

What other users see

Your first name, avatar or photo, bio, neighborhood, interests, activities you want to try, and social style. Never your email, birthdate, exact location, or one-sided post-meetup picks.

Sharing

We don’t sell your data. We use service providers to run the app (currently Supabase for database, authentication and storage; Expo for builds and push notifications; Vercel for this website). They process data on our behalf under contract. We’ll disclose information if required by law or to protect users’ safety.

Retention and deletion

You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account). This permanently removes your profile, plans, crews, connections and Circles. Messages you sent are anonymized so other members keep their chat history. Waitlist emails are deleted on request.

Your choices

Notifications: granular controls in Settings.
Location: optional; you can use the app with just a neighborhood.
Access, correction, export or deletion of your data: email us.

Children

The app is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

We’ll update this page and the “last updated” date when the policy changes, and notify you in the app for material changes.
